The main Secondary Production for the 2002-2003 academic year was the
well-known pantomime, Cinderella. Over 35 students were involved, and
a considerable number of the teaching and administrative staff. The
performances themselves were a great success, and showed that the Secondary
School can put on impressive and entertaining productions.
The images on this page show the rehearsals in progress.
The story of Cinderella was a familiar one to most of
the audience, but we updated it and transferred it to Bangkok:
Cinderella lives in Silom
Hall with her father, the old and senile Baron Silom, and her evil stepmother.
Her two ugly stepsisters also live there, and they make her life miserable.
All day she must work from dawn until dusk and then beyond, scrubbing
floors, washing clothes and cooking meals. Meanwhile, the ugly sisters
spend their lazy lives eating sweets, watching TV and going shopping.
Meanwhile,
Prince Rupert of Bangkok is looking for a wife, but is unable to find
a girl that he likes. His father therefore holds a Grand Ball, inviting
all the single women in the city so that the Prince can choose a bride.
Needless to say, the Stepmother and the ugly sisters (as well as their
ugly cousins, played by two teachers making cameo appearances) all go
to the ball, leaving poor Cinderella at home.
Fortunately,
Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother appears, and casts a spell so that
she can go to the ball in style. She arrives at the ball and falls in
love with the Prince. However, she has to leave before midnight, or the
spell will be broken, and so rushes out, leaving the Prince alone with
nothing but one of the shoes that she dropped as she fled.
What follows is a hilarious story of
the Prince trying to find the foot that fits the shoe belonging to his
one true love, and the problems he has in doing so. In the end, however,
everything falls together and everyone ends up living happily ever after
– well, nearly everyone!
The production
was exciting and entertaining, with lots of laughter, plenty of music,
and some excellent dancing. The students and teachers involved worked
very hard all term to produce an extremely polished performance. The set
was spectacular, the music was accomplished, and the choreography exceptional.
Well done to everyone involved, and thanks to those who supported the
event by attending the performances.

Look forward
to next year’s Secondary Production, which will be even bigger and
better than this one!
