Following the success of last year’s production of ‘The Sound of Music’, the secondary school was back again with the exciting musical ‘Annie’ on 11th & 12th December 2008! The rehearsal process took all of term one and everyone involved worked really hard to make it as spectacular performance as possible.
It was 1933 and Annie (Chrissie Yr 8) was abused by a cruel orphanage matron, Miss Hannigan (Gain Yr 11). Annie decided to run away and find her parents. After eventually managing to escape the orphanage, she was sadly caught and sent back by the police (Thien & Charles Yr 12) of the NYPD. Soon though, her luck improved. Billionaire Oliver Warbucks (Pume Yr 13) decided to invite an orphan over to his house for Christmas and his secretary Grace (Kamonporn Yr 10) chose Annie. The two quickly hit it off and he agreed to help Annie find her parents by putting up a $50,000 reward! Miss Hannigan's brother, Rooster (Josef yr 13), and his girlfriend, Lily (Eri Yr 13), pretend to be Annie's parents by using information provided by Miss Hannigan. At the last minute, the President of the United States (Sukrit Yr 10) intervened to announce that the FBI had discovered that Annie's parents were in fact, dead. In the end, Hannigan, Rooster, and Lily were all arrested and Annie was adopted by Warbucks and they all lived happily ever after!
The Saint John’s performance of ‘Annie’ was an excellent show, with plenty of dance numbers and entertaining moments of the orphan’s naughty shenanigans. Excellent actors in lead roles were well supported by a cast of students from across Secondary School.
All in all, this was an exciting production to watch and the audience came out of each performance having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The professionalism of the cast, band and crew was outstanding.
Thank you to everyone – students, staff and parents – who made this production possible.
