ROMEO AND JULIA – BLOG for the 2009 Secondary School Production
Preparations have begun…..
On Monday 7th September the Secondary school held auditions for the up and coming 2009 production of ‘Romeo and Julia’. These auditions incorporated a drama and music workshop to encourage the students involved to think about how they will need to move and act on stage. A good number of students were in attendance and very keen to take part. They were guided through mime and movement exercises by Director /Drama teacher Frank Walmsley and had a go at singing some Beatles’ songs, under the musical direction of the Head of Music, Shirley Smith and English teacher, Mr Jon Woolley.
Students were given the opportunity to showcase their talents, including trying out for the band, playing instruments such as bass, keyboard and acoustic guitar. Shakespearean lines were quoted with passion and enthusiasm, although writer Mr Bennett has adapted the original version and dialogue of this tragic tale in order to bring it up to date for a modern audience. A shortlist has been compiled from the first auditions and we will be announcing the starring roles in the next few days.
More will be revealed as the rehearsals get underway….. Look out for regular updates
