Mr and Mrs Witt-Williams took 15 students from Year 11 to Chiang Mai on a very enjoyable eco-tourism trip. The group left Bangkok on Sunday 21st June and traveled to Chiang Mai by train on the overnight sleeper. Everyone was very excited and the 14 hours on the train passed very quickly indeed.
On Monday 22nd, we went on a half day ‘Colours of Chiang Mai’ cycle tour. There were many sights on route including a Chinese temple, a local bakery, a sweet factory, ancient ruins of Chiang Mai, the McCain Foundation Rehabilitation Centre and everyone enjoyed the stop at a local restaurant where they were served Kao Soi, a delicacy of Chiang Mai.
On Tuesday 23rd, we got up bright and early to go on the ‘Flight of the Gibbon’ adventure organised by Treetop Asia. This is Chiang Mai’s most popular tourist attraction and we soon found out why. We traveled through the forest canopy on zip lines and bridges for over 2 km. It was an exhilarating experience for everyone, and a new experience too, as no-one had ever done anything quite like this before!
On Wednesday 24th, we traveled to Mae Malai Elephant Training Camp where we were taken on a bamboo raft down the river, before watching an elephant show which was remarkable. The elephants danced to music, played football with amazing accuracy and one even painted a picture of an elephant holding a flower in front of our own eyes! The tour finished with an elephant safari through a river and the jungle.
After three days of non-stop activities, everyone was exhausted and thus slept soundly on the overnight sleeper train back to Bangkok!
