MOVEMBER @ ST JOHN'S |
HOME >> |
| |
|
|
|
|
| |
Movember is coming to St. John’s. In support of raising awareness and money for prostate cancer, many of the male staff of SJIS will be growing (and a few attempting to grow) moustaches for the month of November.
As you can imagine this might produce moments of great humour but also contribute to a very worthwhile cause. |

Three Years ago I had arrived as a new student to Saint Johns, one week later I had already established myself as a student and felt comfortable with the school.
In all the schools I have ever attended, Saint John’s has been the only place where I have really felt at home and to me it’s a place where I can be myself and not be afraid of being unpopular or being limited. |

The Inter House Badminton Competition for this year showed great support and participation by many students in the secondary school. It was pleasing to see such a vibrant atmosphere created by the students in a friendly but competitive manner. Students who came to support their respective houses did so and many others took photographs, wrote articles or helped members of staff in the organisation of the competition. Well done to Yellow House who won the competition out right and Red House who gained the most points from the house competition. |

Wai Kru 2010 |
HOME >> |

On September 23rd the traditional ceremony of Wai Khru was celebrated at SJIS. The Thai department spent many hours preparing the ceremonial flowers that were to be presented to the teachers. The display of colours in the activity hall was spectacular and the ceremony began with the walking in of the school board. Ajarn Chainarong opened the ceremony by paying respect to the King as well as the books and computer and after this the story and significance of Wai Kru was read through by Amy, Peem, Nuk and Mild. After presenting the Chairman of the Board and the Heads of School with their flowers, students passed by the teachers, paying respect to them and offering them their gift of flowers. We would like to thank the Thai Department for all their hard work they put into making the ceremony the success it was as well as all the parents and families that came to support us on that day. |

Primary children in years one to four (including Mr. Lowder & Mr. Rudall) were filmed being involved in various activities. You will be able to see SJIS on screen very soon and we will notify you when you will be able to see the children on TV. The TV programme people were so impressed with our students that they are coming back for more. Watch this space! |

Halloween 2010 |
HOME >> |

Although normally on 31st October, we celebrated Halloween on Friday 29th. The student council had been very busy preparing face painting and costume parades. At the start of school for primary and lunchtime for secondary there were prizes for best (or worst) costumes. Some of our parents and most of our staff have also been very busy with lots of ghouls and scary monsters—many many thanks for their hard work. A truly horrific day was had at SJIS. |

MUSIC is the thing that shows the feelings and thoughts of the composer to the audience through the melodies and sounds by various musical instruments. For me the only thing that I always think about is how to make the audience happy and entertain with my songs. |

Hello everyone! Many of you might have heard of Elvis through your parents, or have never heard of him in your life. Elvis Presley is the King of Rock n’ Roll, just like Michael Jackson was the King of Pop. I believe he is one of the most influential people to have lived in the past century.

Art Trip to Penang |

On Thursday 21st January 13 GCSE and A Level students were joined by Mr Spence, Miss Fretche and myself on a trip to Penang to take part in the ISAE art weekend organized by Uplands School. After a nice ‘relaxing’ start to the day we arrived in Penang and met with the 3 other schools taking part in the intensive art workshops being held by practicing artists and architects. Randy and Judith, the organizers, encouraged the students to meet and make new friends from the beginning by giving them various activities to do which encouraged them to perhaps step out of their comfort zones; this included yoga poses, group interaction and stretches.

World Book Day 2010 by SJIS |
HOME >> |

World Book Day was celebrated across the whole school on Thursday 4th March. In Primary the children and staff dressed up as a character from a book that was made into a movie. There were some very colourful characters walking around school.
In the morning the children listened to extracts from stories that the teachers had chosen. There were also many great activities happening in the classrooms.
