This year on Friday 7th November, St John’s hosted the third annual Battle of the Bands competition.
Four bands from various international schools in Bangkok battled it out; with a whole range of numbers from “Sweet Child of Mine” to “Tears in Heaven” with additional music from two supporting bands from St John’s International and St. John’s North American High School.

During May half term eleven students from Years 4 - 6 along with Miss.
Richardson and Chief Coach Khun Krit, went to Penang to compete in the Primary
FOBISSEA games.
All of the children did a fantastic job in all of their events; they played
hard, enjoyed themselves and were excellent ambassadors for St. John’s. We
mustn’t forget our supportive Mums who deserve a gold medal for their deafening
cheers.
For more information, results and photos please visit the International School
of Penang (Uplands) website.

Hiroya is a new student at Saint
John’s North American High School. He is from Japan and joined our school as
full-time student at the end of April.
Hiroya has decided to come to
Thailand because he is very interested in Thai Boxing. He currently
participates in K-1, a mixed martial arts fighting sport. You can see the K-1
website here if you would like to learn more about the sport.
The youngest in the K-1 combat
category, Hiroya faces his older opponents with confidence and ease showing
little or no fear. His debut fight was sponsored by TBS/FEG sponsorship 'K-1
WORLD MAX 2007. It is one of the prestigious decisive tournaments in Japan - held at Tokyo
daybreak coliseum. |

This year’s annual FOBISSEA Under 13 Games were held at St Stephens International School this
March, but we were we delighted to help the host school out by sharing our
excellent facilities with all the competitors. Using our brand new PA system,
all the athletes marched around our track to the strains of Vangelis’s
“Chariots of
Fire”

The
school is very proud to announce
that Sarunporn Boonyarattaphan
(Year 10/2) and her sister,
Apaporn, has won a competition
to conduct science experiments
in microgravity. The sisters
won the competition with a research
proposal for "The study
of the rate of medical dispersion
under microgravity". As
winners of the competition,
Sarunporn and her sister will
board a Japan Aerospace Exploration
Agency (JAXA) craft which will
create the microgravity condition
necessary for the experiment
by flying in a parabolic flight
path. The competition was judged
by representatives from JAXA
and the National Science and
Technology Development Agency
(NSTDA). The achievement has
caused a stir in the Thai press
with Matichon newspaper describing
the sisters as the "first
Thai astronauts" |

The
biggest event of the St.John's
calendar certainly lived up
to expectations. Parents, students
and the next generation of rock
stars all had a great time.
St.John's Secondary band were
narrowly defeated by the overall
winners, Harrowstock from Harrow
School. St.John's NAHS band
also put in a very impressive
performance as well and we should
all be proud of having staged
such a great night. |
