We follow the National Literacy Strategy from England. The teaching of Literacy consists of a number of areas.
Speaking and Listening: This area aims to enable the children to read, rehearse and give performances, to discuss and listen carefully, make contributions and ask questions that are responsive to others ideas and views as well as to talk and listen confidently in a wide range of contexts. |
 |
|
| |
Reading: The children recognise the features of different fiction genre, including myths, legends, fables and stories from other cultures and identify the features of recounted texts, instructional, explanatory and persuasive texts.
Writing: The children learn to edit their writing to improve its quality and accuracy. They write extended stories, poems and factual writing.
An important part of Literacy is the use of ICT to support teaching and children's use of ICT to support their learning.

The teaching of Numeracy follows the framework of the National Numeracy Strategy. Lessons have a strong emphasis on mental calculation. Children are given the opportunity to explain their answers and suggest new ways of tackling problems. The children are encouraged to develop their skills and apply these to practical problem solving.

As our children are from all over the world it is important for them to know about the wider world. In this area of the curriculum we develop a range of geographical skills and develop key geographical concepts. It is also important to have knowledge of the place in which we are living. Therefore, we investigate the local area and other localities within Thailand. The units covered are; ‘A contrasting Thailand locality’ and ‘Investigating coasts’ which explores local coastal environments. |

The children have lots of fun discovering what life was like in the past and how it is different to their lives today. History is taught in an enjoyable and exciting way. There are Dramas Tragedies to enact, mysteries to solve and philosophical questions to be asked. The areas covered include; ‘Who were the Ancient Greeks?’ and ‘How do we use Ancient Greek ideas?’ .

Children in Year 5 are encouraged to take part in the life of the school. Many take part in several after school clubs. During Term 2 of Year 5 the children take part in a residential field trip to Hua Hin as part of our Geography topic on Investigating Coastlines and comparing localities. In addition to the links to the curriculum, residential fieldwork offers our children many opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development..
